In response to the recent controversy surrounding alleged question leaks in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination 2024 for the “English” subject conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), concerned students have launched a petition inn Change.org demanding accountability and fair resolution. Despite the NBSE’s denial of question leaks to local media, students maintain that they have personally witnessed the forwarded questions and refute claims that they were merely suggestions.

The petition, now signed by 1,749 (at the time of filing this report) highlights the specific instance of the English subject examination held on February 12, 2024, wherein questions were purportedly circulated among students via WhatsApp groups prior to the exam. Students assert that these leaked questions mirrored those present in the official question paper, raising suspicions of foul play.

According to the students, detailed analysis revealed that the leaked questions encompassed various components of the examination, including idioms, phrases, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and writing prompts, with a significant portion of the paper allegedly leaked in advance.

The petition outlined two key demands put forth by the students:

Thorough investigation by the NBSE into the alleged question leaks, with the perpetrators, including the implicated teacher and involved students, facing appropriate consequences.

Consideration for either a re-examination for the English subject or compensation in the form of marks, given the potential unfair advantage gained by some students due to the leaks.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the petition stressed that the issue transcends mere academic concerns, impacting the fairness and credibility of the state board’s examination process.

Additionally, it called upon Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, to intervene and address the matter.
