The Department of English, Dimapur Government College (DGC), organised an extension activity on April 24 under the theme, “This is Their Home Too: Educate & Advocate for Animal Rights,” at SPCA, PM SHRI Government High School, Burma Camp, and Burma Camp Bazaar.
The programme involved faculty members led by the Head of Department and students from the 2nd, 4th and 8th semesters.
The formal session was chaired by Assistant Professor Shuiching Konyak. In her welcome address, SPCA Dimapur Executive Secretary Marianne Rao appreciated the initiative and stressed collective responsibility in addressing animal welfare. She also shared the history of SPCA in Dimapur and rescue stories.
Students Hojila S. and Mhao Yanthan spoke on the role of youth in promoting awareness and empathy towards animals.
SPCA Vice President Joseph Lemtur called for more SPCA centres in the region and noted that Dimapur remains the only such cell in Nagaland.
SPCA spokesperson Eunice Lotha invited youth to join the voluntary organisation.
Students later cleaned the SPCA premises, visited the Veterinary Hospital, and distributed pamphlets on animal welfare in Burma Camp.
