The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Dikhu Hydro Power Project Dam-III is set to take place on 24 March 2025 at 12:00 Noon. The ceremony will be attended by KG Kenye, Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest. Other prominent guests include MLA Nuklutoshi, Pongshi Phom, and Tongpang Ozukum, along with various local stakeholders.
The ceremony is being hosted by landowners from Mokokchung and Longleng districts, including representatives from the following villages:
Mokokchung District: Chuchuyimlang Village, Unger Village, Salulemang Village, Yaongyimti Village (Old) AND Yaongyimti Village (New)
Longleng District: Yaongyimchen Village, Yachem Village and Pongching Village.
The Dam-III project, aims to address Nagaland’s energy needs. This project, however, should not be confused with the larger 186 MW Dikhu Hydro Electric Project, which has faced prolonged delays due to land acquisition issues in the Longleng district particularly in the villages of Nyang and Kanching.
“This (Dam-III project) is a different upstream location. A much smaller capacity project. Nevertheless, things need to move,” a source from the power department told MT.
When asked whether it is still a part of the larger 186 MW Dikhu Hydroelectic Project, the source denied adding, “Same river but entirely a different project. This location Dam – III, doesn’t touch Nyang nor Kangching,” the source clarified.
