The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur granted approval for the pre-trial destruction of narcotic drugs in cases where the criteria for such destruction had been met under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
According to the Commissioner of Police (CP) report, a total of 79 cases were registered across 9 police stations in Dimapur under the NDPS Act. The District Drug Disposal Committee, led by the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, and joined by the SP (Crime), DCP of Dimapur, and representatives from Chumoukedima and Niuland, conducted a physical verification of the drugs on December 4, 2024, at the Prosecuting Inspector Court Office, Dimapur.
The narcotic drugs were subsequently destroyed at the DMC dumping ground, Burma Camp, in the presence of the district administration from Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland.
The total approximate monetary value of the destroyed narcotics amounted to Rs 34,82,87,425. Among the drugs destroyed were 9 kgs 741.15 grams of brown sugar, shanflower, and heroin, 16,537 SP capsules and Nitrosen tablets, 5 kgs of crystal meth, 2 kgs 450 grams of opium, 17,269 bottles of cough syrup, 2,600 kgs of opium straw, and 1,34,203 WY tablets/Simplex-e.
