The closing ceremony of the 1st Dr KC Nihoshe Memorial Open Football Tournament was held today at the District Sports Council Ground in Zunheboto. The event was graced by Major Prince Fernandez of the 11 Battalion Assam Rifles Zunheboto, who attended as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Major Fernandez expressed gratitude for being part of such a prestigious event and extended his thanks to the Trojans Club for organizing the tournament in memory of Dr KC Nihoshe. He emphasized the importance of supporting young talent, remarking, ”Today you’re playing here, but who knows, some of you might even make it to the FIFA World Cup or Manchester. Keep your eyes on these youngsters and give them your love and affection.”

Hokato Yepthomi, President of the Trojans Club, also delivered a presentation, acknowledging the contributions of everyone involved in the tournament. A special performance by Noghuli Chipuku followed before Nimughato Zhimo, Convenor of the event, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks. The ceremony concluded with a benediction by Avilo Achumi, Assistant Children’s Pastor of SBCZ.

The final match featured an exciting contest between Dimapur Chaos and Peregrines Club Football. Dimapur Chaos, sponsored by Jimos Car Rental Dimapur, emerged as the champions with a 2-0 victory. Honato (Jersey No. 9) and Nungsang (Jersey No. 88) scored the winning goals for Dimapur Chaos, showcasing excellent teamwork and skill.

Sukhalu Village, which provided food, accommodation, and logistics for the players of Dimapur Chaos, received special recognition for their support. Additionally, the Peregrines Club Football Zunheboto, established in 2024 by 18 like-minded friends, sponsored the team, contributing significantly to the success of the event.

The tournament, which attracted enthusiastic spectators and participants, was a fitting tribute to Dr KC Nihoshe, honoring his legacy while highlighting the budding football talent in the region.
