Dimapur colleges conducts seminar on Urban Ground Water Management

Dimapur, November 3 (MTNews): The Jal Shakti Team from Dimapur Government College and the Swachhta Action Plan Committee from Unity College, Dimapur, organized a one-day state-level seminar with the theme “Urban Groundwater Management in Nagaland: Issues and the Way Forward” in the seminar hall of Dimapur Government College on November 3. IQAC, Dimapur Government College and IQAC, Dimapur Unity College sponsored the seminar.

 

 

The principal of Dimapur Government College, Professor Sanjay Sharma, expressed his concern about the seriousness of the water resource problems, which, if not addressed, could result in international conflicts. The Principal also mentioned that although the Northeastern regions had received a lot of rain, the level of underground water had declined.

In his presentation, the resource person, Limasunep, Joint Director, Directorate of Soil & Water Conservation, Nagaland, discussed the country’s water-related stress and groundwater depletion in the Northeastern regions. He offered suggestions for ensuring a sustainable future and encouraged the community to use water harvesting techniques to prevent further deterioration of underground water.

 

He also shared various techniques and encouraged institutions and community leaders to educate the public on how to save rainwater in various forms and increase underground water levels.

 

Rukuoviu, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, DGC, presided over the event. Dr. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Coordinator, IQAC, Dimapur Government College, welcomed the attendees and discussed the effects of underground water depletion.

 

The seminar was attended by representatives from various colleges in Dimapur, colony and village council members, students and faculty members from Dimapur Government and Unity College. Dr. Adani Ngullie, coordinator of IQAC at Unity College, gave the program’s closing remarks.
