Dimapur Government College successfully inaugurated a two-week online National Workshop on Research Methodology on April 7. Organised by the Research and Development Cell of the college, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (NERC), the workshop will continue till April 17.
The programme has witnessed an overwhelming response, with a total of 838 participants, including university and college teachers as well as research scholars from across India and abroad, highlighting its wide academic reach and relevance.
The keynote address was delivered by Bhagirathi Panda, Director, ICSSR-NERC, Shillong, who highlighted the growing significance of research in the social sciences and humanities in addressing contemporary global challenges. He stressed that issues such as climate change, global inequality, geopolitical conflicts, and uneven developmental outcomes require rigorous, evidence-based research.
Emphasising the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, he urged academicians to integrate theory with empirical research and collaborate across disciplines, especially in the context of India’s National Education Policy 2020, which promotes a multidisciplinary framework.
Highlighting emerging challenges, he noted the rapid advancement of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence, and stressed the need for ethical benchmarks in its application. Encouraging participants to pursue honest and meaningful research, he called for collective efforts to generate knowledge that improves quality of life and addresses real-world problems.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Hare Krushna Parhi. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, Principal of Dimapur Government College, while Dr. Vinyuhu Lhounyu, Coordinator, IQAC, proposed the vote of thanks.
