The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) commemorated the 79th Naga Independence Day at the DNSU Office on 14th August 2025. The early morning program was attended by office bearers, elders, members of the community, and well-wishers, and featured a compelling keynote speech by Eno Kevitho Kera, a prominent member of the Global Naga Forum (GNF), the DNSU said in a press release.
The event began with an invocation by Eno WS Kahor (Women Coordinator, DNSU), followed by the flag hoisting and welcome address from Eno Hinoto P Aomi (President, DNSU). Eno Michael Kath (General Secretary, DNSU) chaired the proceedings, and a benediction was delivered by Eno Tsuktilong Jamir (Secretary, Games and Sports, DNSU).
Key Highlights from Eno Kevitho Kera’s Speech
Eno Kevitho Kera, representing Naga patriots worldwide through GNF, invoked the enduring spirit of the Nagas as expressed in the historic 1929 Letter to the Simon Commission. He challenged the gathering to reflect on whether the passion of the Naga ancestors continues to inspire unity despite both internal and external efforts to divide the Naga people:
“Such was the desire and passion of our ancestors, our fathers. I challenge you today, do we still have that spirit burning inside us?… Today, I request all of us to think of ourselves as Nagas in the truest sense and not Nagas from other areas with this and that. We are one and we should always be one.”
He acknowledged the tireless work and sacrifices of Naga political groups but expressed optimism for future unity: “I know when the time comes Nagas, will unite and I have a strong belief in that.”
Kera also underlined the power of non-violence by reminding India’s legacy as the land of Mahatma Gandhi and called for the Nagas’ peaceful, unified rise: “India has every reason to be afraid of a mass Naga non-violent uprising. When lakhs of Nagas rise up peacefully and non-violently, India will be clueless on how to respond.”
He thanked DNSU for its unwavering role in sustaining the Naga movement and preserving their identity, emphasizing that the Naga Movement belongs to all Nagas and not just a particular group.
The speech concluded with the powerful reminder and rallying call: “…leave us alone to determine for ourselves as in ancient times. Ura Uvie and Kuknalim!”
DNSU extended its gratitude to all participants, constituent units, seniors, and well-wishers for their support and presence.
“Let us stand together in unity and determination for the future of the Naga people,” the NDSU press release issued by its Media Cell added.
