Dimapur Police arrest man for death threats against Dr Rosemary Dzüvichü

The Dimapur Police have arrested a man in connection with death threats and derogatory remarks posted against Dr Rosemary Dzüvichü, Adviser to the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), on Facebook.

According to a press note issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, the complaint was received on September 24 at the Cybercrime Police Station, Kohima. The threats had been made in the Facebook group “Unified Nagaland for Christ.” Following the complaint, police identified and apprehended the accused on the same day.

A criminal case was registered at Diphupar Police Station under Case No. 0058/25, citing Sections 351(3)/79 BNS read with 67/67A of the Information Technology Act. The accused, identified as 38-year-old Walonir Longkumer, has been taken into police custody, and further investigation is underway.

The press note emphasized that “all threats to the safety and security of individuals, whether conveyed physically or through digital platforms, shall be dealt with stringently as per the provisions of law.”

It added that any action intended to intimidate or endanger citizens will not be tolerated and assured the public that law enforcement agencies will act decisively against such activities.
Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Aotula Imchen, IPS, signed the press note dated September 25, reiterating the police commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals in the state.

Ao bodies, NSF, NMA and various organizations condemn death threat

Multiple Naga organizations have strongly condemned the Facebook post containing death threats and derogatory remarks directed at Dr Rosemary Dzüvichü, Adviser to the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) by the accused, WJ Longkumer.

Ao Senden, representing the Ao Naga community, described the post as a “lunatic act” against a respected teacher and social leader and urged law enforcement to take strict action. The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) called the attack “vile, violent, and cowardly,” asserting that threats will never silence those advocating for justice and gender equality.

The Lirmen Students’ Union (LKM) also condemned the violent threats and derogatory language expressed against the social activist and educationist.

The Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO) called the threat “intolerable” and urged exemplary legal action, warning youths to use social media responsibly. “To issue such threats and abuse, especially against women, is not only a criminal act but also a grave moral failing,” the student body stated.

The Japukong Students’ Conference (JKM) also expressed its deep outrage and condemnation over the offensive and threatening remarks and extended their support to Prof Dr Dzüvichü.
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) described the threat as a direct assault on the dignity of Naga women and democratic values, calling for immediate legal action and protection for Dr. Dzüvichü and other women activists. The Naga Scholars’ Association, New Delhi, emphasized the responsibility of social media platforms to monitor and remove posts that incite hatred or violence.

Youth and women’s groups also condemned the act. The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) stressed that intimidation against women leaders undermines democracy and must be addressed firmly.

The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) described the threat as “diabolical” and part of a broader attempt to intimidate women leaders, urging investigation into both the perpetrator and the social media administrators of the groups involved.

The Naga Mothers’ Association appealed to the law enforcement agency to investigate thoroughly and ensure due legal action is awarded against the individual WJ Longkumer for his hateful and vulgar death threat.

The NMA also asked to act against the Administrator/Moderator of the two social media where this objectionable death threat has been posted (1) Unified Naga Land for Christ, and (2) The Chronicles of Nagas.

It asked to ensure adequate protection for Prof Rosemary Dzüvichü, Adviser, Naga Mothers’ Association and other women activists who are facing intimidations.

The Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) also strongly condemned the violent threat and derogatory language directed against Dzüvichü.

The ENSA stated that there can be no space or justification for issuing death threats or using hateful, vulgar, and demeaning language, particularly against women.

Demanding swift and decisive action, ENSA urged every citizen to reject the use of violent language, threats, and derogatory remarks, and instead promote a culture of respectful dialogue, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence.

NSCN-IM clarifies

Following the arrest of WJ Longkumer for issuing death threats against Dr Rosemary Dzüvichü, Adviser to the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has issued a statement condemning the post and clarifying that the accused has no connection with the organization.

The NSCN-IM expressed shock and dismay over the viral Facebook post in the group “Unified Naga Land For Christ”, calling the language used by Longkumer “highly vulgar and profane” and an attack on women’s dignity, modesty, and character. The organization stated that such behavior is unacceptable in modern Naga society.

The statement also addressed Longkumer’s attempt to associate himself with NSCN, stating, “What has caught our attention is, when this person shamelessly tried to connect himself as a member of NSCN.”

“This has compelled us to clarify that he is in no way connected to NSCN in any manner whatsoever. For his recklessness to bring NSCN in bad light, we shall consider deemed necessary to deal with him in befitting manner,” it added.
