The United Colony Council, Ward 20, Dimapur, has resolved that shopkeepers and business owners in the colony shall not associate with any business union, association, committee or other business-related organisation within the colony.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting convened by the Colony Council with shopkeepers, business owners and landlords on August 31. According to the council, the resolution was unanimously agreed upon by those present.

The council said the latest decision continues its earlier standing resolution as well as the resolution adopted at the Colony General Body Meeting.

While acknowledging that such organisations are generally formed with “good intentions, genuine purpose, and the objective of serving the community”, the council said the mushrooming of unions and associations in Nagaland had attracted criticism from the public, business community and legislators.

The council said the resolution was adopted in the “larger interests of the public and the business community”.

It stated that the resolution would remain in force until it is permitted or amended by the competent authorities and through a resolution of the General Body of the United Colony Council.

The council appealed to all concerned to take note of the decision and extend their cooperation.
