Mokokchung, November 3 (MTNews): To commemorate the 75th year of independence, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) launched the ‘Haq humarabhi to hai@75’ campaign, which provides basic legal assistance to people confined in prisons and childcare institutions.
The campaign is being carried out from October 31 to November 13 across all of the state’s Central and District Jails under the guidance and supervision of Nagaland SLSA.
The Kiphire DLSA field team visited the district jail in Kiphire on November 3 and spoke with the inmates under the leadership of Panel Lawyer Lizila Sangtam and PLV Tsasela Sangtam. There are currently 2 convicts and 7 Under Trial Prisoners (UTPs). There were no inmates at the time in the observation home.
On November 2, a Tuensang DLSA field team led by retainer attorney Antimangyang Chang visited an observation home and the Tuensang District Jail and spoke with the inmates. At the moment, there are two inmates at the Observation Home Tuensang, 18 UTPs, and 6 convicts at the District Jail Tuensang.
On November 1, Wokha DLSA paid visits to the Observation Home and District Jail in Wokha and provided counselling and legal advice under the direction of Panel Lawyers Shanchobeni P. Lotha and Jacob Kikon, with assistance from Para Legal Volunteers Abigail Lotha and Tsanthungo. There are currently 22 inmates in the District Jail, including 6 Convicts and 17 UTPs. It was found that there were no children in conflict with law at present.
On November 2, the Dimapur DLSA field team launched the campaign at the District Jail in Dimapur. To carry out the campaign, the Kohima DLSA also held a consultative meeting with the Panel Lawyers and PLVs.
The Phek DLSA, led by Vethothi Vero, Retainer Lawyer, Phek DLSA, and Dieze Vadeo and NuvekuSoho, PLVs, visited and interacted with UTPs and convicts at the Phek District Jail on November 1. There are currently 6 UTPs and 7 convicts.
On November 1 and 2, the Longleng DLSA field team, led by Monyie Phom, Panel Lawyer, and Manau N PLV, visited the Longleng District Jail and interacted with the prisoners..
