District-level training on basic palliative care held in Mokokchung

A district-level training programme for medical officers and nurses on basic palliative care under Mokokchung district has been held at the CMO Conference Hall, Mokokchung, on March 26.

Dr. Limanaro, DPO (UIP & RCH), delivered the keynote address, stating that palliative care involves the prevention and treatment of serious health-related suffering and takes a holistic approach to improving quality of life. She said it addresses not only physical pain but also the psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual suffering of both patients and their families.

A short address was delivered by Dr. Tiasunep, Chief Medical Officer, who spoke on the concept of palliative care. He emphasised the importance of quality of life for patients and families, quality healthcare, knowledge, and discipline, adding that if quality is ensured, it will sustain itself.

The resource person for the training was Dr. Sentiyenla, SMO, CHC Mangkolemba. The training covered key topics including an introduction to palliative care, pain management, the WHO analgesic ladder, and ways healthcare workers can deliver quality palliative care in their respective health units.
