The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Employees Welfare Union has formally notified that its members will cease all work starting August 5, 2025, in protest over non-payment of salaries and benefits.

The decision was announced through a notification dated August 4, 2025, and is based on three resolutions previously submitted to the DMC on July 24, 2025. The union has demanded: Clearing of backlog salaries of DMC employees; Payment of EPF, gratuity, and other benefits; and Clarity on engagement of DMC employees in various duties.

According to the notification, the union cited “repeated failures by the DMC to clear the backlog of pending salaries of staff and workers, despite multiple assurances” as the main reason for the collective action.

“Until and unless the DMC clears all pending salaries in full, no tools or machinery will be operated across any department or site,” the statement read. The union further stated that the decision had been adopted unanimously by the general body and would remain in force until all financial dues were cleared.

The protest will take place daily from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Old DMC building premises, Kalibari Road, Dimapur. It has been described by the union as “non-violent, disciplined, and conducted in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.”

The union also noted that strict attendance will be taken, and fines would be imposed on staff who fail to attend the protest.

As of filing this report, no official response has been issued by the DMC regarding the announcement.
