The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on Wednesday accused a non-Naga individual, Nirmal Jain, of illegally acquiring land and obtaining an Indigenous Certificate through fraudulent means.

At a press conference, DNSU General Secretary Michael Kath said the union’s internal investigation had found credible evidence of unlawful activities. “We are not against non-locals doing business peacefully, but we oppose those who come in the guise of business and exploit our land and rights,” he said.

He alleged that Jain had purchased land and conducted multiple transactions despite not being legally entitled to do so. “He claims that he is a genuine citizen of Nagaland with an Indigenous Certificate, but the proof and evidence speak otherwise,” he said.

DNSU has gathered sufficient evidence and resorted to bringing this to public attention to protect the rights and lands of the Nagas, the student leader added.

According to the DNSU, the Indigenous Certificate held by Jain dates back to 2002, but there is evidence that he arrived in Dimapur in the 1980s. The union also alleged that he has tampered with land pattas and is involved in land transactions under Naga names.

DNSU President Hinoto P Aomi alleged that Jain is a central figure in land dealings in Dimapur, including areas along the four-lane highway, and questioned how he obtained land documents. The union also claimed Jain falsely claimed kinship with the late Balchand Jain of Kalibari.

Despite an ongoing inquiry, DNSU alleged Jain continues to sell land and has not provided proof of his claims. They expressed concern over his influence, stating he claimed close ties with Naga national workers, politicians, and bureaucrats.

The union said it will submit a formal complaint to the state government and demanded immediate seizure of Jain’s Indigenous Certificate and land holdings. It also urged authorities not to shield individuals involved in such activities.
