The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has called out the Higher Education Department for its lack of “tangible action” regarding the recently collapsed boundary wall of Dimapur Government College (DGC). In a press statement issued on Thursday, the union expressed serious concern over the wall’s collapse, which occurred just 4-5 months after its construction in 2022.

The DNSU criticized the department for failing to respond adequately to repeated appeals from college students, stating that this negligence has jeopardized the security and wellbeing of the student body. “The DNSU views this incident as a stark reflection of the government’s apathy towards education and student welfare,” the statement said. The union emphasized that the wall’s collapse poses a significant threat to students, particularly those residing in the boys’ and girls’ hostels on campus. Additionally, it said that it undermines the college’s ability to conduct programs and events securely, allowing outsiders easy access to the premises.

“The incident of physical assault and extortion (on October 10) further highlights the urgency for enhanced security measures. The DNSU condemns the inaction of concerned authorities and demands immediate reconstruction of the campus boundary wall”, the statement read.

The DNSU appealed to the state government and the department concerned to immediately reconstruct the campus boundary wall and address broader security concerns warning that if no action is taken, they will be forced to consider democratic protest along with the students.
