Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, emerged champions in both the girls’ and boys’ categories as the second edition of the Inter High School and Higher Secondary School Basketball Tournament organised by the Mokokchung District Basketball Association (MDBA) concluded at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Friday.
In the girls’ final, Don Bosco HSC defeated Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, 29-19 to claim the title.
Don Bosco also secured the boys’ championship, defeating Eden Academy, Mokokchung, 57-42 in the final.
The tournament brought together eight schools, including two from Dimapur, as the competition expanded beyond Mokokchung district for its second edition. Holy Cross Higher Secondary School was the other participating school from Dimapur, while GHS Changki, Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School Impur, Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Queen Mary HSS, Eden Academy and Christian Residential Higher Secondary School represented Mokokchung and surrounding areas.
In individual awards, Sanenienla of Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School was named the Girls’ Most Promising Player, while Don Bosco’s Mehrin Beck was adjudged Girls’ Player of the Tournament.
In the boys’ category, Don Bosco’s Adikhum was named Most Promising Player, while Eden Academy’s Imkongakum received the Player of the Tournament award.
The tournament, which began with the objective of strengthening basketball at the grassroots level and identifying promising young players, was expanded this year to provide local teams with greater exposure to competition from outside the district.
The participation of Dimapur schools also provided players an opportunity to experience different playing styles and competitive approaches, supporting the organisers’ broader objective of developing basketball in Mokokchung.
