Mokokchung, September 13 (MTNews): An avid and renowned philatelist from the North Eastern region, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema was conferred with the prestigious Large Silver Award at the World Stamp Championship which was held at Jakarta, Indonesia from 4th to 9th August 2022. The award was received in absentia on behalf of Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema by Mr. Sahadeva Sahoo, Philately Commissioner of India, as Dr. Andrew could not attend the championship in person due to another crucial event back home.

Dr. Andrew, who had earlier won the Large Silver Award at the INPEX (National Stamp and Philatelic Exhibition) held at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai in December, 2019 is the only philatelist from Nagaland and even the entire North East region to have won this prestigious award of Large Silver in a mega international philatelic championship.

Dr. Andrew, who is also a Gold Patron of National Philately, won the Large Silver Award at the World Stamp Championship among 507 exhibitors from 61 countries. He was awarded for his open class philatelic exhibition entitled ‘World War-II Vignettes’ which provides a visual walkthrough of the World War-II, arguably the most significant event of the 20th Century, by way of Philatelic and Open-Philatelic material.

The goal of his exhibit was to introduce selected categories of Postal and Open-Philatelic memorabilia as well as tell the story of the war using interesting visual elements. The structure of the exhibit follows a chronological order. It progresses from the rise of Hitler’s Third Reich, onto the key invasions and conquests that caused an Allied Force to come to War, and then to the culmination with American and Japanese action. Towards the end it also showcases some commemorative items that remember key events of the War at milestone dates.

World Stamp Championship was a world-class philatelic exhibition held in Indonesia by the Indonesia Philatelic Associations (IPA) under the patronage of the Federation Internationale de Philatelie (FIP). The exhibition was held in Jakarta and was fully supported by the Ministry of Communication & Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Governor of DKI Jakarta, PT Pos Indonesia, and Peruri.
