In 1890, Dr. Clark and his wife along with some new converts from Molungyimsen village toured Langpangkong range preaching the Gospel, during which they visited Akhoya village. When Dr. Clark and his followers reached Akhoya, he stood at a place called Metjongkong and prayed, “Lord Jesus, thy kingdom come, may your blessings be upon this Akhoya village and raise many witnesses to proclaim the gospel amongst the people beyond the river. Amen.”
During the celebration of the Quasqui Centenary (1888 – 2013) of Akhoya Baptist Church in 2013, a monument was inaugurated at the site where Dr. Clark prayed for Akhoya. The inscription on the commemorative plaque of the monument reads:
“This monument is set up here on 22nd November, 2013 in commemoration of the Quasqui Centenary of the Akhoya Baptist Church as a symbol of God’s special love for the people of Akhoya village and to remind her posterity about the same love of God that saved and lifted them up.”
The monument, a statue of Dr. Clark, was inaugurated on Friday, November 22, 2013 by Rev. I. Wati Longkumer, Director, Nagaland Missions Movement.
