Dr Longri Ao, former Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the 29 Jangpetkong constituency and Advisor to the Government of Nagaland, was found deceased at his residence in Dimapur on 7 March, 2026.
A two-term legislator, Dr Ao held key advisory and parliamentary secretary positions in various departments during his tenure. He was widely respected for his humility, approachability, and dedication to public service.
Beyond politics, Dr Ao was actively involved in humanitarian initiatives, including voluntary work with the Indian Campaign to Ban Landmines under the Indian Institute for Peace, Disarmament and Environmental Protection, Nagpur, and with Geneva Call, Switzerland.
His efforts reflected a long-standing commitment to peace, human rights, and the welfare of the community.
Sharing his grief, NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer said, “Late Dr Longri Ao remained a humble and approachable leader throughout his life. His service, both within and beyond public office, stands as a testament to his enduring commitment to the people of Nagaland. On my own behalf and on behalf of the Members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray that Almighty God grant them the strength to endure this irreparable loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM), National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland, LJP (RV), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other community and political leaders expressed their condolences, remembering Dr Ao’s service to the people of Nagaland and the Ao community.
