Punjab seal late win, Nagaland claim big win in Group B action

The Dr T Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025–26 (Tier 2) continued in Chümoukedima, Nagaland, with two Group B matches on Monday. Punjab defeated Uttarakhand 2–1, while Nagaland registered a commanding 7-0 win over Andaman and Nicobar. After the results, Punjab lead the group with two wins from two games. Uttarakhand and Nagaland have one win each from two matches, while Andaman and Nicobar remain without a point after two losses.

In the earlier fixture, Punjab staged a strong second half comeback to secure a 2–1 win over Uttarakhand in a competitive match. Uttarakhand struck first in the 25th minute through Khushi Pal, who capitalized on an early attacking move to put her side ahead. Punjab enjoyed greater ball control throughout the game and continued to push forward, but the Uttarakhand defence held firm until the break.

The match turned in the second half when Punjab captain Harmeen Kaur stepped up and delivered a decisive performance. She converted a penalty in the 69th minute to level the scores and continued to drive the team’s attacking momentum. Punjab maintained constant pressure, recording 67 percent possession and registering 16 shots on target. Their persistence paid off when Harmeen scored again in the first minute of added time to seal a dramatic win. Uttarakhand managed only one shot on target, and although disciplined in their approach, could not build on their early advantage.

In the evening match, Nagaland produced a dominant display in a one-sided result against Andaman and Nicobar, controlling possession and creating chances throughout the game. Nagaland recorded 76 percent possession and 15 shots on target, reflecting their command in midfield and attack.

Catherine opened the scoring in the 11th minute and doubled the advantage in the 25th minute. Sentinaro added a brace before half-time and later completed her hat-trick with a well-taken penalty in the 78th minute. Zemloi converted another penalty in the 29th minute, while Charakungliu rounded off the scoring with a goal in the 86th minute.

Andaman and Nicobar struggled to contain the hosts, managing only three shots on target and receiving two yellow cards. Nagaland displayed strong teamwork, six corners, and disciplined defending, ensuring a comfortable win that keeps them firmly in contention in the group stage.
