“It will go ahead as scheduled,” Lamthiu said in response to queries about whether the NFA had made any decisions regarding the Dr T Ao Trophy dates.

This confirmation comes a day after the organizing committee of the NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy postponed their tournament to September 14, citing a clash with the Dr T Ao Trophy. However, the state football association executive confirmed that the dates will proceed as scheduled.

On July 12, during the Tuensang DPDB monthly meeting, the board discussed the agenda for the Dr T Ao Trophy and agreed to host the tournament in Tuensang from September 16 to 27, 2024. During the meeting, MLA and General Secretary of the Nagaland Football Association Benei Lamthiu highlighted sports as a career and the government’s initiatives to promote youth in sports. He appealed to the board to use the platform of hosting the trophy to showcase the culture and beauty of Tuensang.

On July 19, the Tuensang District Football Association (TDFA) announced the dates of the tournament through TDFA President Yangdipi Sangtam. He said that the Tuensang FA will host the prestigious Dr T Ao Football Tournament in Tuensang town from September 17 to 27, 2024. He further informed that the decision was finalized during a TDFA meeting held on July 11, 2024. The meeting also concluded that all participating teams must report for the tournament on September 16, 2024.
