The District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), Kohima convened a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on June 17, 2025, to assess the progress and action plan for the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem, NCS, was attended by officials from various departments.

Executive Engineer (Rural), PHED, Kedo Punyü, provided a detailed briefing on the objectives of the mission, which focuses on a community-driven water supply approach, emphasizing groundwater recharge, rainwater harvesting, and protection of water sources.

Punyü also highlighted the role of Self Help Groups, especially women, in creating employment opportunities through the development and maintenance of water infrastructure. He stressed the importance of water quality testing, capacity building, and accurate data reporting on the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS).

Ten key action points from a recent Deputy Commissioners’ meeting with the National Jal Jeevan Mission were reviewed, including: Activation of the JJM dashboard for real-time monitoring; Establishment of a NABL-accredited water testing lab in Kohima; Strengthening of water sources; and Data collection from institutions on water connectivity.

The DC directed all concerned departments to compile and submit relevant data to ensure effective and timely implementation of the mission.
