The Kohima District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and DWSM Chairman Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, was held on September 13, 2024, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Kohima. The meeting focused on enhancing water tap connectivity and sanitation efforts across the Kohima district, with various departments presenting their progress and challenges.

The Rural Development Department reported on sanitation and water tap connectivity, while the Water Resources Department highlighted ongoing water harvesting projects and data collection initiatives. Discussions centered around the need for greater collaboration among departments to streamline water supply efforts, with specific focus on improving connectivity in Anganwadi Centres, PHCs, CHCs, and government schools.

DC Ramnikant emphasized setting monthly targets to accelerate progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He urged departments to share and verify data, correct any discrepancies, and work towards achieving 100% water tap connectivity in all village households in Kohima. The Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) detailed the JJM’s progress in the Kohima and Tseminyu districts. Out of 76 villages in Kohima, 71 fall under PHED’s jurisdiction, while the remaining 5 are managed by the Rural Development Department. The JJM aims to achieve complete water tap connectivity for all rural households by December 2024.
