Ten parties from the INDIA bloc in Manipur on Friday, December 6, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state, which has been ravaged by ethnic violence, before the end of the year.

In a letter to Modi, the parties expressed that the people of Manipur have been “eagerly waiting” for his visit since May 3 of last year to voice their grievances and helplessness.

They highlighted the devastation caused by the ethnic turmoil, which has displaced nearly one lakh people and resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives, plunging the state into chaos.

The letter further noted that ongoing violence has intensified the crisis, leaving the people of Manipur in a state of “unprecedented pain, trauma, fear, and helplessness.”

“We, on behalf of the people of Manipur and the INDIA bloc, invite you to visit our state. If you are unable to visit before the end of 2024, we request that you meet with all political parties from Manipur in New Delhi,” the letter stated.

The parties emphasized that Modi’s direct engagement with the people of Manipur is crucial for restoring peace and normalcy in the region.

“We humbly plead for your visit at the earliest. Your presence would greatly strengthen efforts to bring peace and stability to Manipur. The people are eagerly awaiting to meet you on Manipur’s soil,” the letter added.
