The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has announced a mass public rally across Eastern Nagaland on April 28, 2025, opposing the proposed border fencing and demanding the right to free movement across what they described as “the land of the Nagas.”

According to a directive issued by ENPO, all educational institutions and business establishments within Eastern Nagaland will remain closed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the day of the rally. The organization has instructed the respective Tribal Councils to ensure compliance with the closure.

However, essential services – including the district administration, police, paramilitary forces, fire and emergency services, pharmacies, and medical emergencies – will remain operational.

While the rally itself will be held primarily at the district headquarters, similar measures have been ordered in sub-divisions such as Longkhim, where educational and business activities are also directed to shut down for the day to show “commitment” to the cause.

The call for the rally comes amid growing concerns among Nagas in the border areas that fencing projects could divide Naga communities living across present-day political boundaries, undermining historical and cultural ties.
