ECI announces Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Nagaland from August 2026

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the conduct of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in a phased manner across 16 States and 3 Union Territories, including Nagaland.

According to Press Note No. ECI/PN/086/2026 dated May 14, 2026, the qualifying date for the Special Intensive Revision in Nagaland has been fixed as October 1, 2026.

The revision exercise will begin with preparatory activities, training and printing from August 5 to August 14, 2026, followed by house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from August 16 to September 14, 2026.

Rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by September 14, 2026, while the draft electoral roll will be published on September 20, 2026.

The period for filing claims and objections will remain open from September 20 to October 20, 2026. The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will continue thereafter until November 18, 2026, followed by publication of the final electoral roll on November 22, 2026.

The Special Intensive Revision is a participatory exercise involving electors, political parties and election officials aimed at ensuring accuracy and purity of electoral rolls. During the process, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification and collect updated electoral details.

The Election Commission has appealed to all eligible electors to extend full cooperation to BLOs during the house-to-house verification exercise and ensure that their details are correct and updated.

It also urged recognised political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for each polling station to facilitate transparency and smooth conduct of the revision process.
