Mokokchung, November 6 (MTNews): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has on November 4 written to the state governments of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura with regard to transfer and posting of officers in the poll-bound states.

 

 

The ECI stated that it has been following a consistent policy that officers directly connected with conduct of elections in an election going State/UT are not posted in their home districts or places where they have served for a considerably long period.

 

Hence, the ECI informed that no officer connected directly with elections shall be allowed to continue in the present district if she/he is posted in her/his home district or if she/he has completed three years in that district during last four (4) years or would be completing 3 years on or before 31st March, 2023. While calculating the period of three years, promotion to a post within the district is to be counted, it added. The policy applies to district officers, police officers.

 

The Commission further directed that transfer/posting of all officers covered under the above instructions shall be done and compliance reports should be furnished to the Commission by 1st December, 2022.
The terms of existing legislative assemblies of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura are due to expire on March 15, March 12 and March 22 of 2023 respectively.
