A significant milestone in the business landscape of Mokokchung was reached on Wednesday as Eco Enterprise, a paper cup production unit, was officially inaugurated in Sungkomen ward. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Tsukti Longkumer, President of the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
In his address during the inaugural program, Aotsung Ozukum, the Proprietor of Eco Enterprise, shed light on the extensive research that preceded the establishment of this venture. He emphasized that the enterprise’s mission is to generate employment opportunities for the community and, in turn, contribute to the economic growth of Mokokchung.
Eco Enterprise currently focuses on the production of paper cups, with plans to expand its product line to include paper plates, tissue papers, and paper bags in the future. He spoke of his market research and surveys conducted in collaboration with national and international companies. He underscored the inconvenience faced by the local community, which often had to travel to Dimapur and Jorhat to acquire these essential products. This inconvenience served as the catalyst for launching Eco Enterprise right in Mokokchung.
Inspired by Tsukti Longkumer, President of MCCI and Proprietor of Longpok Holdings, Ozukum called on the community to support his venture and embrace their locally produced paper products.
Addressing the audience, Tsukti Longkumer highlighted the importance of this new enterprise in the context of India’s ban on single-use plastics (SUPs). He commended the initiative to manufacture paper and paper products, acknowledging the courage required to embark on such a journey. He also acknowledged the impending challenges faced by Ozukum and reminded him that success in business takes time and dedication.
Longkumer emphasized that Mokokchung is a substantial market. “It is not right to say, Mokokchung is a small Market, it is not measured by the size of the town but it is determined by the trade and commerce done,” he added. He encouraged the use of eco-friendly paper products and urged the community to support Eco Enterprise’s mission.
In his closing remarks, Longkumer extended his encouragement to aspiring entrepreneurs, emphasizing that success may not come immediately and that persistence is key to overcoming obstacles and garnering support from the community. The inauguration ceremony concluded with a brief exhortation and a dedicatory prayer by N Angum Jamir.
