The Economic Advisory Council to PM (EAC-PM) led by Bibek Debroy, chairman of the council, landed in Nagaland today. This visit to Nagaland comes following a Friday meeting with PM Modi where they reportedly discussed the trajectory of the growth and evolving global and domestic factors influencing India’s performance.

Debroy had previously emphasized the importance for states to improve their efficiency in areas like labor and land to enable India’s economy to realize its growth potential of 8-8.5%. Speaking at the Mint India Investment Summit earlier in May, Debroy mentioned that while India’s aspirational growth rate would be around 8-8.5%, the economy is expected to expand by approximately 6.5% over the next two to three years. With the implementation of supply-side reforms, this growth could further accelerate to 7%, and in an optimistic scenario, even reach 7.5%.

While the details of their discussions remain undisclosed, the delegation, led by Debroy, held separate meetings and discussions with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang.

According to Zeliang, Debroy and his team have come to Nagaland to “understand the development issues of the State.” Chief Secretary Nagaland, J Alam gave a detailed presentation where they highlighted and deliberated on various issues and challenges faced by the State.

Adding that the team gave a ‘patient hearing’, the Deputy CM expressed confidence that it will be taken up at the highest level and help resolve the challenges faced by Nagaland. Both CM Rio and Deputy CM Zeliang wished the team a pleasant stay in Nagaland.
