A sudden heavy downpour in Chessore, Tuensang District, resulted in the tragic death of an elderly man on August 22. The deceased has been identified as Mukhe Yimkhiung, a retired pipe fitter from the Public Health Engineering Department and a member of the Watsan Committee.
Yimkhiung was washed away by the floodwaters of the Ningdangke stream while returning from his field. His body was recovered in the evening, several hundred meters from the incident site.
In response to this loss, the Chessore Village Council has declared August 23 as a traditional mourning day, in accordance with local customs. The council has also requested that the relevant authorities provide compensation to the family of the deceased, who was a poor farmer.
