The Elpis Society for Rehabilitation Centre was launched in Phek on August 16 by Dr. Pritpal Kaur, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek, with the aim of supporting individuals struggling with alcohol, drug and substance dependence.

The Elpis Society is a community-based organisation established to address rehabilitation needs and support the reintegration of affected individuals and their families. “Elpis” is a Greek word meaning “hope for good”.

Founded under the vision and leadership of Dr. Kaur, the society focuses on awareness, prevention, counselling, rehabilitation support, community engagement and advocacy, while working to reduce stigma and discrimination associated with substance use disorders.

The launch programme was chaired by General Secretary Wazote Akami and began with an invocation by Dr. Vezhoto Soho, Associate Pastor, PTBC. President Velato Nienu delivered the keynote address, stressing compassion, community participation and collective responsibility in addressing substance dependence.

A key highlight was the unveiling of the society’s Constitution by Dr. Kaur. She encouraged collective efforts towards a drug and intoxicant-free Phek and described the rehabilitation centre and society as her “final parting gift” to the district before her transfer.

Vice President Nuvekulu Ezung presented the society’s vision and mission, while Miss Vamvelu Lohe of Tune Up Academy performed “When We Believe”.

The rehabilitation centre is currently undergoing repairs and work. The first batch of beneficiaries will soon be registered and supported by counsellors, doctors, prayer centre experts and caretakers.

The programme concluded with a mass spoken prayer and benediction.
