Kohima College Kohima, in collaboration with the Nagaland Chapter of the Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) organization, recently conducted a “Law for All” session at Coraggio High School in Kohima. The session aimed to help students gain insights into the process of entering law schools across India, providing valuable information about scholarships and opportunities available for students aspiring to study law.

IDIA is a non-profit organization founded by the late Prof. (Dr) Shamnad Basheer in 2010, with the primary mission of supporting underprivileged students in gaining access to law education in India. The organization has made significant strides in increasing diversity and inclusivity in law schools by empowering marginalized communities.

During the session, IDIA volunteers discussed the organization’s work and how students can benefit from its initiatives. “IDIA offers scholarships to students who are passionate about pursuing a career in law but lack the financial resources to do so,” said a representative from the organization.

How IDIA Works
IDIA identifies and supports deserving students across India, particularly from underprivileged backgrounds, by providing free training for law entrance exams. Student volunteers travel across various states to raise awareness and guide students about career opportunities in law. Selected students receive specialized training from top law entrance coaching centers, further equipping them for the highly competitive law entrance exams.

The organization also focuses on creating community advocates and leaders, empowering marginalized communities through education.

IDIA’s goals and impact
IDIA’s goals are to increase diversity within law schools, empower underprivileged children, and create lawyers from within marginalized communities. Since its inception, IDIA has expanded its reach with over 1000 volunteers across 20 states. The organization has supported more than 70 students, including 16 scholars with disabilities, helping them pursue law education at India’s top law schools.
