Two-day Indian Engineers’ Federation (North Eastern Region) Annual Council Meeting begins

Kohima, July 22 (MTNews): A two day Indian Engineers’ Federation (North Eastern Region), INDEF (NER) Mid-Term cum Annual Council Meeting began at Kohima today. Engineers in Chief, Chief Engineers, and Engineers from the eight North East States are participating in the meeting.

 

Speaking at the inaugural session of the meet, Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir said, the INDEF as an apex body of conglomeration of nearly two lakhs engineers to the state, central and private sector services along with those self-employed are equally contributing to nation building process in various capacities that is making the country move ahead and keep pace with all the developed nations.

 

He said, as Engineers, they should know that through their selfless and brilliant minds, the country is forging ahead of the developed countries technologically.

 

Jamir said Engineers directly contribute to the wellbeing of the society, and that their contribution to make lives better is well recognized and appreciated by all. He said their contribution will definitely impact the government initiatives in the North East and their contribution will be the deciding factor on the success or failure of these initiatives.

 

He said, with Act East Policy, engagement of Association of South East Asian Nations is becoming a central pillar of India’s foreign policy direction and North Eastern states play an important role as physical bridge between India and South East Asia. He said even though the Northeast region is at a central point of development and progress, the region lacks in many essential development activities.

 

On this, Jamir said, Engineers from the Northeast region must ensure that the local needs are given priority over everything else. Jamir further emphasized that with the rapid progress in technological advances, the present Engineers should ensure to protect the environment and nature by adopting innovative systems which will not only protect but also improve our natural environment and resources.

 

The key-note address was delivered by President INDEF (NER), Er. Pura Tupe, wherein he highlighted some of the issues related to the engineering services such as pay disparity when compared with other services like the Indian Civil Services, the need for a proper rotational transfer and posting policy to ensure effective functioning and also the need to have an Engineering Commission to address the issues and service matters of the Engineers.  He further thanked FONSESA for organizing and hosting the event and hoped that the two day event will have progressive outcomes and also strengthen the bond between the North Eastern States and that the region will progress as one.
