Two best-friends, Chubasonla I Chang of Artang ward and Lanusangla Imchen of Aongza ward, after completing their master’s degree decided to involve themselves in the ‘thrifting’ hype generated in social media last year. But what struck them were the prices of the products which were beyond expensive for the students.
Upon realizing the burden of pricey products on students and those with economic restraints, the two best friends ventured on their @_your_pocket_money_ on Instagram in October 2021 keeping ‘good quality and affordable pricing’ as their target.
“Initially, we started with our clothes which we haven’t worn and made sure that they were affordable for the customers, especially students, even after balancing out the expenses of purchasing packages,” the girls shared.
“Later, we started buying clothes from secondhand shops with low prices which, of course involved a lot of bargaining,” they laughed recalling.
However, the friends now make embroidered and painted tote bags which they learnt as a hobby while growing up.
“With the hype of Eco Tote Bags everywhere, we decided to join in the trend and started making embroidered and painted tote bags with the little knowledge we had about stitching. By God’s grace, the tote business is going well for us now,” they said.
The duo later admitted that their business involves a lot of effort and labor.
“Making sure the clothes are thoroughly washed and clean is our topmost priority. However, the problem is with the water scarcity,” they giggled. “Moreover, we have to pack the goods and walk miles and miles to deliver it to the customers.”
Talking about the profits they make, they said, sometimes, the only profit they make out of their work is fifty to hundred bucks which only add up a little to their monthly allowances. But the best friends are determined to continue as they understand that having patience is the road to success.
“One of the most important things, we’ll suggest to the youths, is to have patience because through it you’ll succeed and be successful. Everything works through patience”, the girls concluded.
