The Eastern Naga National Workers Association (ENNWA) has welcomed the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s recent resolution supporting legislative, executive and financial autonomy under the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), describing it as a positive step towards ensuring equitable development for Eastern Nagaland.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the association lauded the Assembly and the State Government for endorsing the proposed autonomy, stating that the decision had renewed the hopes of the people of Eastern Nagaland and demonstrated the State’s commitment to addressing the long-standing aspirations of the region.
The association also expressed support for the Nagaland Assembly’s proposed visit to New Delhi for consultations with the Union Home Ministry and other stakeholders, saying the discussions would help clear misunderstandings that have persisted despite the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on February 5, 2026, between the Government of India, the Government of Nagaland and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO).
At the same time, ENNWA criticised some members of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU), alleging that they had opposed the inclusion of legislative powers under the proposed FNTA. The association urged that individuals who do not support the agreed framework should not be included in the proposed delegation to New Delhi, claiming that their participation could undermine efforts to secure the aspirations of the people of Eastern Nagaland.
While clarifying that its criticism was not directed at all ENLU members, ENNWA appealed to legislators from the region to work collectively in the interest of Eastern Nagaland and support the implementation of the proposed autonomous arrangement.
The association also wished the State Government’s delegation success in its proposed engagement with the Centre, expressing hope that the consultations would help resolve the remaining issues relating to the constitution of the FNTA
