The Eastern Naga National Workers Union (ENNWU) of the NSCN/GPRN has appealed to the Yimkhiung and Tikhir tribes to exercise restraint and resolve their differences peacefully amid the recent conflict between the two communities.

In a press release issued on October 19, ENNWU expressed concern over the situation and called on tribal leaders, elders, civil society organisations and community members to work collectively towards an immediate resolution.

“Violence, retaliation, and confrontation can only deepen divisions and create unnecessary suffering among our people,” the union stated, urging both communities to prioritise dialogue, mutual respect and reconciliation.

The union also cautioned against spreading rumours, misinformation and inflammatory statements that could further aggravate tensions between the two communities.

Emphasising the shared history, culture and traditions of the two tribes as part of the Naga family, ENNWU said their common identity should serve as a basis for unity rather than division.

“Peace is our collective responsibility, and reconciliation is the path towards a stronger, united, and harmonious Naga society,” the statement said.

The union appealed to both communities to set aside their differences and work towards restoring lasting peace and trust.
