The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) and Eastern Sumi Hoho (ESH) held a significant meeting on 4 July at Dimapur’s Saramati Hotel, capturing much attention and anticipation. Lasting approximately an hour and a half, the representatives involved described the meeting as “fruitful.” However, they were quick to emphasize that it should not be considered a final resolution.

The meeting brought together representatives from the ENPO, ESH, and the Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator districts. While the participants expressed satisfaction with the meeting’s outcome, they stressed that further action would be required from the state and central governments.

Central to the discussions, according to reports, was following the proposal put forth by the central government regarding the Frontier Naga Territory. In response to this proposal, the Eastern Sumi Hoho has been advocating for a merger with the Zunheboto district. However, a crucial point of contention revolves around the land occupied by the Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator, which is located in the eastern region of Nagaland.

Despite ‘positive outcomes’ emerging from the meeting, the responsibility for taking further action now rests with the state and central governments. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang are reportedly in New Delhi, to discuss with Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Frontier Naga Territory.
