The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has welcomed a new leadership team following elections held during its general session at Tuensang’s Town Hall on Thursday, July 4, 2024. A Chingmak Chang has been elected as the new president, succeeding outgoing president R Tsapikiu Sangtam. Honang Konyak assumes the role of general secretary, with Khehoto Yepthomi Sumi taking charge as finance secretary.

The election marks a significant transition for ENPO, with the remaining executive council positions—vice presidents, joint secretaries, finance committee members, treasurers, and correspondence secretaries—set to be appointed based on tribal recommendations in the near future. The formal handover of responsibilities will follow these appointments.

Outgoing president Tsapikiu Sangtam expressed gratitude to the Eastern Nagaland community for their unwavering support during his tenure from 2021 to 2024. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the previous administration and expressed confidence in the new team’s ability to advance the interests of the Eastern Nagaland region, particularly focusing on improving living conditions in remote villages.

“It was because of your prayers and support that our team could reach up to this extent despite so many hurdles from outside and from within. These hurdles inspired us to work more diligently for the success of the FNT, but I am sorry that our team was unable to complete the task of signing the MOS in time, for which we regret,” said Sangtam.

However, he expressed a strong belief that the new team will take over the mantle and work more strongly for the success of FNT, which would uplift the living conditions of the Eastern people, especially those living in the far-flung interior villages who are waiting and praying anxiously for deliverance from the bondage of backwardness in every phase of life.

“Although we hand over the baton to the new team, our team will always be there behind them to encourage them in this journey for the success of FNT,” added the former president.

The Konyak Students’ Union extended their deepest gratitude to the former ENPO team for their dedication and hard work while offering their support to the newly elected team.

This change of leadership takes place at a time when Eastern Nagaland, under ENPO leadership, has successfully abstained from two elections: the Lok Sabha election 2024 and the Urban Local Body election 2024.
