Mokokchung, 10 June (MTNews): A Health Awareness Seminar was held on Saturday at Sangtam Baptist Church in Mokokchung, with a total attendance of 83 families and individuals. The event was organized by Eastern Nagaland Peopl’’s Union Mokokchung (ENPUM) and facilitated by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Mokokchung.
N Chuba Phom, Assistant Planning Officer of Mokokchung, extended a warm welcome to the participants and urged them to actively engage and learn from the seminar. He emphasized the importance of sharing the knowledge gained during the event with their communities.
During his keynote address, Dr Kibangkumba, Chief Medical Officer of Mokokchung, stressed the saying “Health is wealth” and encouraged the attendees to focus on the health-related topics that would be discussed by the guest speakers. He highlighted the significance of preventive measures and prior knowledge in addressing the health concerns of today. Dr Kibangkumba also urged the participants to disseminate the knowledge acquired from the seminar, not only among their loved ones but also among those who may be unaware and living in remote villages.
The awareness seminar covered a range of health topics related to pregnancy and delivery. These included the importance of antenatal and postnatal care (ANC & PNC), institutional deliveries, government schemes for maternal healthcare, high-risk pregnancies, immunization and adverse events following immunization (AEFI), exclusive breastfeeding, complementary breastfeeding, early childhood diseases, family planning methods for birth spacing, and the community process for addressing non-communicable diseases (NCD) and the role of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs).
The facilitators for the seminar included Dr Supongmeren, Senior Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology at IMDH, Dr Imlisenba, a Pediatrician at IMDH, and Matsungshila CHO Longkong.
Watisenla Jamir, DCM of the National Health Mission (NHM), served as the moderator for the awareness seminar.
