The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) ignited effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National BJP President JP Nadda in Tuensang today in protest of what they perceive as unmet promises regarding the Frontier Naga Territory demand.

The backdrop to this fiery demonstration is the state of ‘Public Emergency’ imposed in Eastern Nagaland since March 8. This declaration has led to the closure of all government offices and restrictions on the movement of government vehicles, both state and central. However, recent developments indicate a partial easing of restrictions, with public movement, private vehicles, and business establishments allowed to operate until further notice.

The ‘Public Emergency’ declaration stems from the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation’s (ENPO) dissatisfaction with the delay in settling the proposal for the creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory through the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Amidst this tense atmosphere, the ENSF and its federating units have issued a directive to Rajya Sabha MP and the 20 elected members from Eastern Nagaland to assemble at Tuensang headquarters within 36 hours. This directive is effective from March 12 (6:00 pm) to March 14, 2024 (12:00 noon).
