“The Nagas have been maintaining neutrality thus far, in the hope that peace and normalcy will soon return to the social unrest/ turmoil state of Manipur. Unwanted provocation from the two communities of Meitei and Kuki in recent days is uncalled for. The patience and silence of the Nagas are running out,” stated NPO in a press statement received here today.

The NPO also condemned the 16 February incident at Phyapou Village in Kangpokpi area, where “automated weapons were fired towards the tranquil villagers from J Songtung (Kuki Village)”. Additionally, on the same day, the NPO condemned the incident at Sekmei, where 4 drivers and a handyman were brutally manhandled to the extent of attempting to murder by some armed miscreants.

“People of Manipur have witnessed enough bloodshed, and atrocity. It is best for both the Meitei and Kuki communities to abstain from further aggravating the situation. These incidents are not stray ones but anticipated,” added the NPO and urged the law enforcing agency to nap the culprit and befitting punishments be meted out.

The incident in Sekmei was further condemned by the All Naga Traders Association Manipur stating that such barbaric acts have no place in civilized society.

“This Incident, involving mental, physical, financial, and verbal harassment, as well as illegal taxes and extortion, has been escalating along the National Highway form Kangpokpi to Imphal in recent days, despite our best efforts to supply and meet the needs of the public in the valley region of Manipur,” stated ANTAM.
