Yimkhiung Tribal Council celebrates Platinum Jubilee with CM Rio as Special Guest

 

Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio said that the state government is working towards establishing a government college in Shamator, stating that “every district should have a government college.” He announced this while speaking at the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council as the Special Guest in Shamator HQ on 24 October 2023.

During the celebration, the CM also inaugurated the NEFA Road, which connects Sangphur to Soil Colony Shamator, constructed under SASCI (State) during 2023-24. He emphasized the importance of “unity” for collective progress and urged the gathering to recognize the value of the common Naga brand and Naga identity, working together to strengthen the territorial and emotional integrity of Nagaland.

Highlighting various government schemes, Rio encouraged the gathering to avail themselves of the benefits and take advantage of free medical treatment under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS). He also provided information about a micro-loan scheme, enabling citizens to secure loans of up to Rs. 50 lakhs.

The Chief Minister also unveiled the Jubilee Monolith, dedicated by Executive Secretary YBBA, Rev Dr. SJ Akhum, and released the Jubilee Souvenir. Greeting messages were delivered by the President of Tenyimi Union, Nagaland; the President of CNTC; and the President of ENPO. A short speech was also delivered by the Jubilee Host, Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports, S Keoshu Yimkhiung.

The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) was established on 1st January 1948 in Huker Village, with Lt. P Hopong Ang as the first President and K Zungkum as the first General Secretary.

Taking to X, CM Rio also tweeted, “Shamator, the newest district in the State, has been getting all the attention it deserves from the State Government. Keeping in mind its infrastructural & developmental needs, many initiatives have been taken for bringing the new district at par with the rest of the State.”

The inaugural function was chaired by Rev Hopong, a Missionary, and the welcome address was delivered by Lakiumong, Convener of the Planning Committee. The keynote address was given by Throngso Yimkhiung, the President of YTC. The Jubilee celebration was heralded by Yimkhiung GBs Ariakho.

A special folk fusion performance was presented by the Trüng Trüng Thülün Fusion Boys, and a special song was performed by Tribal Squad. A vote of thanks was delivered by Deventhong, Secretary of the Planning Committee. Cultural troupes from Lontsunger, Sangphur, Yakor, and Shiponger villages showcased traditional dances during the celebration.

The jubilee was celebrated under the theme “Celebrating Togetherness” and was attended by Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir; Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye; Advisor to the Chief Minister, Dr. Chumben Murry, and other dignitaries. The hosts of the jubilee were Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports, Keoshu, and Advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, Relief & Rehabilitation, S. Kiusemew.
