The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has strongly condemned the attacks and violence against Christians and churches across India during the Christmas season. The association described the incidents as “unacceptable and unfathomable,” highlighting that the attacks tarnish India’s image as the world’s largest democratic secular nation.

In a statement, Ex-PAN expressed concern that, while the rest of the world celebrated the joyous festival, minority communities in India faced threats, harassment, and violence. The association appealed to the Prime Minister and the Government of India to take immediate steps to prevent such religious intolerance, stressing that “Secularism is enshrined in the Constitution of India, and this must be practiced in letter and in spirit and not just remain in name.”

The statement also addressed the recent racial killing of Anjel Chakma, a tribal student from Tripura studying in Dehradun. Ex-PAN called the act “extremely alarming and highly condemnable” and joined the rest of the North-East in denouncing the killing. The association emphasized that race and appearance should not define citizenship and noted that people from the North-East have contributed significantly to nation-building.

Ex-PAN called on the Government of India to ensure the protection of North-East residents living and studying across the country, urging that they be treated as equals and not subjected to discrimination or violence. The association appealed to all citizens to condemn such acts and to work together to eliminate racial and religious intolerance.

Expressing condolences to the family of the late Anjel Chakma, Ex-PAN prayed for strength and comfort for them in coping with the tragic loss. The association reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the values of unity, diversity, and protection for all citizens regardless of religion, race, or region.
