Fake employment racket busted in Wokha; prime accused and accomplice arrested

Wokha, 2 July (MTNews): The Wokha Police has successfully dismantled a fraudulent employment racket, leading to the arrest of the prime accused and an accomplice involved in the scam. According to an update provided by the district police on 1 July, the racket revolved around false promises of government jobs at the State Agricultural Research Station (SARS), which operates under the State Agriculture Department.

 

The prime accused, identified as Lideno Yanthan, holds a position as an employee within the Agriculture Department. Yanthan’s accomplice, Chenithung Kikon, was also apprehended. Yanthan, originally from Humtso village, currently resides in Diphupar, while Kikon, a resident of Longsa village, lives in Church Colony, both located in Wokha.

 

The police revealed that the prime accused and her associates defrauded around 30 individuals by providing them with counterfeit documents and assurances of government employment at SARS. It is estimated that the total amount swindled by the racket amounts to approximately Rs 40 lakh, as stated by the Wokha Police on their official Facebook page.

 

The police authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious regarding such illicit and corrupt activities, advising them to be wary of false promises and fraudulent job schemes.

The police also seized a soap case containing suspected brown sugar from the possession of the accomplice.

 

A case has been registered against the two accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, they face charges under Section 66D of The Information Technology Act, 2000, pertaining to cybercrime, and Section 21 (B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, related to drug offenses.
