Mokokchung Police have seized 15,824 empty bottles of McDowell’s rum suspected to be intended for use in the adulteration or manufacturing of liquor, and apprehended four persons in connection with the case.
According to a press release issued by the Mokokchung Police, the seizure was made on May 8 at around 9 pm during a surprise checking conducted at the Sewak Gate area.
Police intercepted a suspicious Tata vehicle bearing registration number AS 25 DC 9621 that was allegedly impersonating an “On Army Duty” vehicle. Upon checking the vehicle, police recovered 184 bags containing around 15,824 empty bottles of McDowell’s rum.
The apprehended persons have been identified as Rongsentoshi Ao (29) of Ungma village and Limanungsang (26) of Sungratsu village, both presently residing at Artang Ward, Mokokchung; Hassan Ali (25) from Barjabari under Nalbari district, Assam; and Ruhul Amin (27), also from Barjabari under Nalbari district, Assam.
Police stated that the empty bottles are suspected to have been brought for use in the adulteration or illegal manufacturing of liquor.
A case has been registered under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act and investigation is underway, the release added.
