Sümi Hoho commends Zunheboto police operation
A joint operation by the Zunheboto Special Operations Team (SOT) and the Officer-in-Charge of Zunheboto Police Station led to a major breakthrough in the district’s fight against illegal substances. At around 3:00 AM on June 29, the team intercepted a Scorpio vehicle along the Zunheboto–Chakabama stretch of National Highway 702A and uncovered a large haul of drugs, alcohol, cash, and an unlicensed firearm.
The vehicle, bearing registration number NL01P0868 and a fake Nagaland Police sticker, was found transporting 11,403 capsules of Sampex (80 boxes), 60 bottles of McDowell’s Rum (5 cases), 12 cans of Kingfisher beer, a 22mm rifle, and Rs 1,75,000 in cash. Two individuals believed to be Naga underground workers were arrested at the scene and are currently in police custody.
Security officials stated that the fake police sticker was being used “to conduct their illicit drug business, thereby defaming the good reputation of the Nagaland Police.” The seized items and vehicle have been taken to Zunheboto Police Station for further investigation.
Commending the police for the successful operation, the Sümi Hoho released a statement expressing “deep appreciation and commendation to the Zunheboto Police for their continued dedication in the fight against drugs and illegal substances in Zunheboto District.”
The apex body described the seizure as “a significant step forward in safeguarding the lives and future of our people, especially the youth,” and lauded the leadership of Dr Kupe Kapfo, Superintendent of Police Zunheboto, for his “unwavering commitment to the safety and wellbeing of the district.”
Appreciation was also extended to SDPO HQ Wanom Wallim, OC Anito Y Sema, and the Special Operations Team for their “vigilance, coordination, and courage.”
“The swift follow-up actions, leading to the arrest of individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms possession, reflect the professionalism and effectiveness of our law enforcement agencies,” the Sümi Hoho added.
Calling for stern legal measures, the organisation urged the authorities to “ensure that all those involved are dealt with firmly” to serve as a deterrent against future crimes.
The Sümi Hoho also appealed to the public to support the police and administration in rooting out drug abuse and criminal activity, stating, “Let us all resolve to support a drug-free and crime-free Zunheboto.”
