Farm School on Mandarin Orange Orchard inaugurated at Salulamang
Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung, Chuchuyimlang Block inaugurated a Farm School on “Mandarin Orange Orchard” at Salulamang village on 27th April, 2022. The farm school was inaugurated with an aim to promote farmer-to-farmer extension for effective transfer of agricultural technology among the farming community.
A short program was conducted wherein Tangit Longkumer, ATM Chuchuyimlang Block, in his keynote address briefed on the concept, functions and objectives of farm school. He also shared about the duties and responsibilities of a farm teacher. The orchard owner, I Maongtoshi, a pioneer in mandarin orange cultivation, was appointed as the farm teacher. The farm school was inaugurated by Mejasenzuk, AFA.
The technical session was followed by a training on “Mandarin orange orchard management” with Chubaienla Jamir, ATM, Chuchuyimlang Block as the resource person. She highlighted the methods of propagation, management of nursery and canopy management for successful mandarin orange cultivation. Further, the major pests and diseases of mandarin orange prevalent in Nagaland were discussed, where all the farmers actively participated and the resource person stressed on the control measures that are to be followed along with the application of pheromone traps, 1% Bordeaux mixture and Neem oil.
Altogether, 30 farm school students participated in the program. Farm tools and bio-fertilizers were distributed to the farmers.
Piggery Farm School inaugurated at Yimchalu
ATMA Mokokchung, Kobulong Block, inaugurated a farm school on piggery at Yimchalu village on 27th April 2022 with T. Meren Jamir as the Farm School teacher.
C. Amongla Jamir BTM delivered the concept and operationalization of the Farm School. In line with the Farm School, a training was conducted on piggery production and management with an aim to attain sustainability and socio-economic upliftment of the swine rearers. The resource person Dr. Sarendi Walling ACTO(AH), KVK Mokokchung, covered a wide range of topics such as breeding, feeding management, disease control and management. He deliberated on selection of piglets for breeding, on housing and mode of administration of medicines.
Later, method demonstration on creep feeding for piglets and Azolla cultivation was demonstrated by the resource person.
At the end of the program, some free equipment, medicines and mineral mixtures were provided by ATMA, Kobulong Block. Altogether 21 farmers along with ATMA Staff attended the program.
