Fatal accident in Tseminyu sends shockwaves as eight lives lost

Mokokchung, 20 September (MTNews): A tragic vehicular accident occurred this morning near K-Station village in Tseminyu involving a Sumo passenger vehicle and a truck resulting in the loss of eight young lives, casting a pall of grief over the region. The Kohima to Mokokchung bound passenger vehicle was carrying seven passengers when the accident happened, where all of the passengers along with the driver lost their lives.

 

 

According to preliminary reports, the truck and the passenger vehicle collided after which both vehicles careened off the road, descending down the slope below the roadway. The truck, laden with sand, tragically landed on top of the passenger vehicle, crushing it beneath its massive weight that claimed the lives of six passengers and the driver. A passenger was rescued from the site of the accident but succumbed to her injuries soon after.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene of the accident to take stock of the situation. The truck driver is under police custody and further investigations are underway.

 

The Wokha police are reported to have received the information of the accident at around 7:40 am following which a traffic police team along with a recovery van was immediately dispatched to the site of accident for rescue operation.

 

As per Wokha police source, “seven died on the spot while one passed away on the way to Kohima.”

 

“Names of the deceased could not be ascertained or established as of now but as per the report, 1 Chang, 1 Yimkhiung , 1 Angami and 5 Ao were on the ill-fated sumo,” it added.

 

At the time of compiling this report, additional details were still pending as authorities continue their investigation into this heart-rending tragedy that has left the community in mourning.
