The Kuki-Zo Council has declared plans for a peaceful rally on February 18, 2025, to press for their demand for a separate administration with Union Territory status and a legislature. The decision to hold the rally was made following a series of meetings held on February 8 and 11 in Lamka.
In a bid to bring their demand to the attention of the central government, the council has urged Kuki-Zo inhabitants across various districts to participate in the event. The rally will be held simultaneously in all Kuki-Zo-inhabited districts, with different frontal organizations coordinating the events in their respective areas.
According to the Kuki-Zo Council, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) will take charge of organizing the rally in Churachandpur and Lamka. In Kangpokpi, the rally will be led by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) and Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills. In Pherzawl and Jiribam, the Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC) along with Kuki Inpi Jiribam, Tamenglong, and Noney will take the lead. Other organizing bodies include Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal, Hill Tribal Council (HTC) in Moreh, Kuki Inpi Chandel, and Kuki Chief Association in Chandel, as well as KSO Delhi & NCR and the Kuki-Zo Women’s Forum in Delhi.
The Kuki-Zo Council has also called on all frontal organizations to show solidarity by organizing similar rallies in their respective locations. Advisory notes, rally slogans, and banners will be provided to assist in the campaign.
Henliantthang Thanglet, chairman of the Kuki-Zo Council, urged the community to participate in large numbers to ensure their voices are heard and their demands are acknowledged by the central government.
