The Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), in collaboration with the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) and the District Management Unit (DMU) Phek, celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 at Pioneer’s Complex, CBCC, under the global theme “Rights. Justice. Action.” for all women and girls with the slogan “Give to Gain.”

The programme brought together women leaders, Self Help Group (SHG) members, Community Conserved Area (CCA) representatives and community stakeholders to celebrate women’s achievements and promote leadership and empowerment.

The formal session was chaired by Nezelu N. Kotso, Executive Director of CWWS, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the organisation’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment through livelihood initiatives such as weaving, tailoring, fruit and vegetable processing, and hospitality services. She also informed that CWWS will celebrate its 50th anniversary later this year and mentioned training programmes and the NABARD-supported TRIBES project that supports local artisans and weavers.

Akhrieno Khamu, Project Manager and Field Coordinator of NFMP-JICA, in her introductory address emphasised the important roles women play in households, communities and development processes, while acknowledging the contributions of several SHGs.

Ozo Venuh, Planning and Livelihood Expert, DMU Phek, highlighted the importance of women’s education and described SHGs as platforms for financial independence and collective progress.

An exhortation was delivered by Zhonelu Tunyi, President of the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association, who encouraged women to recognise their potential as agents of change and urged continued community support for women.

Dr. Pritpal Kaur, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek, attended the programme as the special guest. She emphasised the importance of agriculture, entrepreneurship and women’s leadership, and encouraged young women to pursue their aspirations while standing up for their rights. She also called for collective efforts to address crimes against women and ensure safety, dignity and justice for all women and girls.

The programme concluded with closing remarks by Mozirhu Rhi and a benediction by Sekhoyi Chuzho, followed by an interaction session and luncheon.
